Kansas City Sheffield Flyover grand opening

Has it really been 17 years? Mop/UP conductor Tony Fey (mopacrr here on TO) was on hand to record a few scenes during the dedication ceremonies for the brand new Sheffield Flyover on the east side of the metropolitan Kansas City area. He was able to get these shots by “tagging along” with a handful of UP officials, both local & from Omaha. From Sheffield the whole party moved down to Kansas City Union Station to see the KCS contribution to the event.

2. UP 4175 & BNSF 5487 pose side by side on the west end of the new ramp.

3. NS 9527 in a solo pose in the same spot.

Tony told me an interesting story from down at KCUS (see image #5 below). As he & 4 UP officials were observing the KCS-led special train roll out of KCUS, a BNSF special agent walked up and tried to tell them they had to leave. One of the UP officials, a senior manager flat said “We are not leaving”. Whereupon realizing he was out numbered 5-1 the BNSF cop merely said “Have a nice day”, and left…

4. Back at Kansas City Union Station KCS has their spiffy F-units + train take part in the dedication, with…

5. …GWWR GP-38 4799 on the rear end.

Thanks for looking back!
