SP Donner At The End, 1996, Not My Favorite Time!
Author: FiveChime

There were some nice photos posted from this exact location by SR last week.

This video was at the end of the SP time with the blinkers on the locomotives with crappy
P3 horns.

I'm okay with it Jim.... it's still the SP before the yellow locos took over.

Not a bad video! You would think the fireman could have at least gave you a wrist flick or something. Geesh!

Very nice look at “our” crossing, Jim.
I really miss those searchlight signals. It’s sometimes difficult to hear WB’s coming (impossible when watching an EB!) so I relied on that signal to “watch my back “. Both were removed a few years ago with the big CCT project.

At 1:48 there's an SP trailer that says "Southern Pacific RPM Van." Anyone know what an RPM van was?

The RPM trailers were mainly used for storage within SP facilities. They'd occasionally be shifted around, as seen here. Most where from the 70's PMT era, with no newer replacements from the 80's or 90's. Also seen in the train is a very rare CN container trailer. These were a bit more common on the ATSF, but still rarely seen in CA.
