Gary Date: 11/22/17 13:16 Re: Fairfield, California Author: stanhunter Technically, Suisun, California. But still a great photograph. Thanks!!
Date: 11/22/17 16:23 Re: Fairfield, California Author: callum_out Guess the track was still in between Suisun and Fairfield in 87.

There was never any SP track between Suisun and Fairfield (with the possible exception of one or two short spurs). The engine is sitting on what was left of the West pass (West siding). Date: 11/22/17 18:47 Re: Fairfield, California Author: John callum_out Wrote:

Dave Date: 11/23/17 02:04 Re: Fairfield, California Author: atsf121 Nice photo, brings back lots of memories. That first SD9 even has an icecicle breaker.

Date: 11/23/17 11:25 Re: Fairfield, California Author: Evan_Werkema Technically, Fairfield starts just on the other side of that overpass.
Date: 11/23/17 12:45 Re: Fairfield, California Author: EtoinShrdlu Well, er, actually the SP tracks mark the dividing line between the two cities. The engine is in Fairfield, the depot is in Suisun.

The way Bing and Google draw the city limits, the tracks mark the dividing line between Suisun and Fairfield north of Highway 12. South of Highway 12, the boundary is between Suisun and unincorporated territory, and it veers a bit west of the tracks right at the station: https://binged.it/2hOywgi https://goo.gl/maps/PqUzSRJgeDr Old topo maps on historicaerials.com going back to 1898 show the same boundry, so technically, both the engine and the depot in the photo are in Suisun, with Fairfield in the background beyond the overpass. Actually, technically, according to SP, this station was "Suisun-Fairfield" in employee timetables so everybody can be correct. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 11/23/17 14:54 by Railbaron. Looks like the old SP station, now used as a yard office. Date: 11/23/17 15:51 Re: Fairfield, California Author: Evan_Werkema mundo Wrote:

That's what it was in 1987 when the photo was taken. The Capitol Corridor service started in 1991, and the station area as it appeared in 2015 looked like this: Date: 11/25/17 03:41 Re: Fairfield, California Author: atsf121 mundo Wrote:

The station and surrounding area underwent a huge renovation. I remember sitting outside the station in the 80's watching the old SP in the original picture. And then getting off the California Zephyr coming home from college. Finally, I used to catch the Corridor trains from there on my way to work after college. Lots of great memories. Nathan Posted from iPhone Date: 11/28/17 07:47 Re: Fairfield, California Author: SPDRGWfan I lived at Travis AFB as a teen an often remember seeing Fairfield Suisun together. While we lived there my parents bought us a horse which we kept at a ranch just outside the base. At the far west end of the field the SP mainline passed by - so it was always a treat for me to ride the horse out there and watch the trains go by.
