Happy 50th Anniversary Palmdale Cutoff
Author: Mr-Beechcroft

SD39 #5307 is on the point of an eastbound back in 1973. The train is passing a nudist camp near Devore.
Next is the 7558 rolling into West Colton from the cutoff back in September of 1991.

The Western board has several discussion entries on the 50th anniversary post.

We had a UP conductor who lived at the camp with his wife. He and I worked the West Colton to Yermo local for a while which used the Palmdale cutoff, at first crossing over at Keenbrook and then using the Silverwood crossover. He had a special whistle cadence that he'd whistle off and several of the residents there would come out and "moon" us as we went by.-BMT

My mother and I attended the spike-driving ceremony for that line, representing a local newspaper.
