I hope some NKP fan will tell us how much of this
trackage is still in existence and how busy it is.

pg 6. It looks like most of the line between Detroit and
St. Louis was non-signaled.

pg 7. Note special instruction (n).

pg 8. Special instruction (u) still has some steam related
information.

Special instruction (v). How does one differentiate between
the "odor between rotten cabbage and skunk" and a stench bomb?

pg 19. Ambulance service. Make sure the driver makes the turn
towards the hospital and not the funeral home !!

Everything west of Frankfort - Route of the Eastbound Golden Spike Centennial Limited with NKP 759 in May 1969 - is gone. Everything east of Bluffton, Ind is gone except for the short section between Grand Rapids and Waterville, Ohio which is the moribund remains of the TLE&W tourist railroad. Between Frankfort and Bluffton there are sections that are - or were - still in service, like the Kokomo area.

Thanks for posting this timetable. It was probably the last one the Nickel Plate published before the N&W merger. This portion of the NKP, the former "Clover Leaf," was originally built as narrow gauge and with the combining of the parallel Wabash in the N&W merger, soon began to be downgraded. Yes, not much is left.

Thanks for posting this. Wonder how many movement orders were issued despite the freight train schedules shown?

Interesting posting on the ambulance services - quite a few are funeral homes! Yikes.

Could have been quite a few trainorders written. I dispatched
something similar on the ICG. Lots of sections, rights of track
and meets were issued

I wonder if this was incentive for railroaders to work safely;
if claiming injury they might not know where they would
spend the night.

I've never seen a NKP employee's timetable before. The NKP stayed competitive for St. Louis business in spite of an inferior physical plant. Thanks for posting it! BSB
