Yet More from the 70's & 80's
Author: navarch2

Did a bunch more this morning before heading off to work...

#1 B&M 1122 - the South station, Boston terminal switcher when B&M took over the MBTA commuter operation from Pc....

#2 B&M 1753 - a GP18 - at Mechanicville, NY

#3 D&H 4075 - A former B&M RS3 obtained originally for use on the "Adirondack" (Note the steam generator in the short hood) B&M received a D&H freight RS-3 in return for it and one other passenger RS-3 the D&H obtained.

Here are two more....

1 - For a brief time, power-hungry Conrail used 5-unit sets of SW1500's to move road freights between West Springfield, and Beacon Park (Boston). Here is a set on SEPR bound for Providence, RI, at CP-22 in Framingham, MA.

(EDit: JPB noted to me correctly that that photo is looking EAST, not west so that may be SEPR's power returning to its' train after a drop in Framingham, before crossing all the way over to the left at CP22 to go down the branch to Walpole and ultimately Providence? ).......or I misidentified the train... :)

2. - Just an ordinary, garden variety Conrail U23B.

Some ordinary, every day Conrail units....

#1 - Conrail 2912, an ex-PC U33B, leads SENH out of Selkirk bound for New Haven, CT.

#2 - Conrail 3014, an ex-PC GP40, leads SEFR out ofSelkirk, with a GP40 and 5 GP-9's.

#3 - Conrail 3207, another ex-PC GP40, is one of two units on a Franklin, MA local shown in Franklin MA about to run around their train and head back to Framingham before the commuter rush.

The last 3 for this afternoon....

#1 - New Conrail GP40-2 leads TV-6 through Framingham at CP22 enroute to Boston.

#2 - The power on the eastbound loaded Bow NH unit coal train, waiting just outside of Mechanicville, NY to go east, led by ex-EL GP-35 3689.

#3 - BOSE goes west through Ashland, MA with C30-7 6601 leading. Note the star on her cab - she too is a "Test Unit" like the SD40-2 I had posted earlier and someone alertly noticed.

Edit: That should be eastbound SEBO, not a westbound train. Landmarks in the distance show that observation to be true.....thank you JPB :))

More tonight....

Foggy memory, but didn't those boiler equipped RS3's go back to B&M after the PA4's were all back from Boise?

I know this picture may have postdated the return of the PA's...I was living in Boston by this time....so I am not sure when the units went back to the B&M - if ever?
