A bit of information can be gleaned from these:

http://www.trainweb.org/oldtimetrains/photos/cnr_self-propelled/one.htm
http://www.trainweb.org/oldtimetrains/CPR_Bruce/stns/inglewood_gallery.htm
https://sjgardiner.wordpress.com/2016/07/31/the-face-of-the-future-for-a-few-minutes-at-least/

It was originally built by Canadian Car & Foundry in 1929 as "oil-electric" railcar CN 18534. It was rebuilt by CN's Point St. Charles shops as diesel-electric D-1 in 1951, and as those pages show, its styling was reconfigured a few times.

It's a beautiful thing! Although it kind of looks like a Motor Car with A Mohawk!
