Backgrounds look more like Syracuse area than Utica. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 02/19/18 11:29 by train1275. Date: 02/19/18 11:24 Re: Conrail RS3's Author: MC6853 Wonder what happened to the hopper in #3?
Posted from Android Date: 02/19/18 12:05 Re: Conrail RS3's Author: nydepot The vent pipe in #1 is also on #2 but in #2, it has a radio wheel on it. I thought maybe a caboose behind the unit but it appears it's a hopper. I never saw an RS with the wagon wheel on it.
Date: 02/19/18 13:30 Re: Conrail RS3's Author: train1275 The vent pipe in photo #1 is the crank case exhauster. The 5546 is an ex - ERIE engine with the wagon wheel style radio antenna. That is the antenna you are looking at. The crank case exhauster was piped downward on those units instead of vertically upwards like on the PC 5325.

Extending it up so the exhaust would blow back over the cab roof made life much more pleasant in the cab.
