Marty:

Thanks for sharing as I remember the B&M in the 1970s. I have a video on Y tube taken onboard 1576 at Ayer, Mass. in 1971 made from amateur super 8. (I was 13 when I took the movie.) Just one correction. 1944 is way too early for a GP7. Maybe that was a typo.

Right Victor. It should read December 1950. Fixed it. Thanks. Marty

Those sand boxes are interesting. Did many other RRs have them like the GP7s? I don't recall seeing anyting like them before.

Those squared off boxes on the lower part of the long hood contained equipment for powering lights in trailing commuter coaches. Most of B&M’s GP7’s had this feature. CNJ and some CNW GP7’s also had this option.

Some beat-up locos there. B&M...."broken & malfunctioning"

It filed bankruptcy in December of that year. So who benefited from the valuable real estate sold (in Boston?), the B&M or Guilford? Never-the-less, I have some fond memories of the railroad in the early 70s. A very young teenager hoped to see the F units on the mainline at Ayer, but I guess they were all up North.
