Nostalgia & History > Bringing Back The SP, Tom Eikerenkotter 1959 PhotosDate: 03/18/18 20:27 Bringing Back The SP, Tom Eikerenkotter 1959 Photos Author: FiveChime 1. Orange and black painted H-12-44 1538 arriving Millbrae for local switching, 11/21/1959
I started watching trains in this area in around 1962 and often saw this Redwood City based local. In my time it was one H-12-4, then two of them MUed together, the RS11s followed by GP9s, RS32s and finally, SW1500s 2. Commute SD9 5363, later 3800 and 4450 leads a special from San Francisco to the San Mateo Bay Meadows race track on 11/21/1959. 3. The second special of the day on 11/21/1959 is a long train of gallery cars from San Francisco to Palo Alto with FM's 4810 in black widow paint and 4811 in the Pumpkin scheme carrying fans to the "Big Game" between California and Stanford. Oh yes, Cal won 20-17 before 90,000 fans! Note X5363 and X4810 in the locomotive number boards - neat times! All photos taken at Millbrae, California by Tom Eikerenkotter. been moved to the north and serves as a "Train Museum" housing a variety of rail related items, but few related to the SP commute line.
