1 -- I think Rock Island had the prettiest hoppers ever! Council Bluffs, 1978.

2 -- RI hoppers still looked good when politely patched. Devore, 1981.

3 -- But some hoppers died an early death, gray or blue. Council Bluffs, 1979.

unfortunately as the Rock's life played out there were more and more derailments. We had derailments frequently here in Wichita, and I remember some derailed/damaged grain hoppers sitting for the longest time up north in Peabody, KS>
