Nostalgia & History > Chessie on Sand Patch...top and bottomDate: 05/16/18 12:41 Chessie on Sand Patch...top and bottom Author: Roadjob First series is at Sand Patch summit. Great place to hang out for a day. Many good photographic opportunities as the Sun shifted. There was always SA tower to let you know what to expect next.
top. helper is about to enter Sand Patch tunnel in its way back to Hyndman middle...work train plodding along westbound bottom...helpers have just cut away from westbound, as eastbound is still going over the top Date: 05/16/18 12:46 Re: Chessie on Sand Patch...top and bottom Author: Roadjob At the bottom of Sand Patch east slope was Hyndman. There was Q tower and the helper station to keep you occupied.

Wow! Were the ore trains running at this time? That's the only time that I remember seeing more than 2 helper sets there! Great photos!

Ore trains were still running but were becoming increasingly rare as the rust belt rusted.
