Nostalgia & History > Assorted SP Geeps on the "All-Cities Local"Date: 05/22/18 22:05 Assorted SP Geeps on the "All-Cities Local" Author: oyw During 1984-1987, I had a job where I was scheduled off at 12 noon on Wednesdays. While I didn't particularly like the schedule, during this time I was frequently able to chase the "All-Cities Local" which worked several SP (mostly PE) lines based out of Colton in Southern California. Here are three random locals taken within an approximately five week span, all on now-abandoned rails.
1) December 20, 1986 (not on Wednesday) I spotted the local tied down on the Riverside Branch at Highgrove behind GP9's 3406 and Kodachrome 3370. 2) Geeps 3409 and 3435 trundle westbound through Fontana with a 17 car train on the old Baldwin Park branch. Taken on January 7, 1987. 3) Three weeks later on a stormy January 28, factory delivered low-nose GP9 3708 works Boyd Lumber in Upland, also on the Baldwin Park line. I can dig out more slides as time permits, thanks for looking. As business drifted away, the jobs were combined as the "All Cities".
