Chinese Red, BSB leading BN train (1971)
Author: valmont

This shot is from Dec. 1971 and was taken near Broomfield, CO. The BSB GP20 was not a a model I saw frequently in Denver. The lake behind is Lower Church Lake, train is heading north on the C&S and power was #3025, 2003 and 2052. All had gotten their BN#'s by then.

Very nice view, and no goofy tree right in the way as there is now! === === = === JLH

Excellent photo - in a similar spirit as the photo's in my copy of Colorful Colorado Railroads of the 1960's book.

Cheers, Jim

Legendary location with a delightful BN lashup. Thanks for sharing this gem a Lower Church's Lake when it was wide open (no tree along the track).

Great shot, Vince! For those not aware, this is the location of the head on between a northbound freight train and a south bound gravel train in August, 1985. The resulting fuel fire melted the girders of the US 36 highway bridge. Five railroaders died in the collision.

Chip -- With that 4-axle power, I'm guessin' that this
train's gonna turn "right" at Burns (??) Jct. -- buzz
through Lafayette and approach Longmont thru the "back door"?

Yet another great shot, Vince!
