First cab is ex ATSF. Anybody know it's former number?

ARCHES caboose directory by Roger Kirkpatrick lists as ex-TP&W 724 then ATSF 999724, class CE-8, blt 1978.

Was ATSF 999724 before it was leased to the TP&W. This was just before the ATSF took total control of the TP&W.

Can't answer that inquiry.  Only know what I repeated from the printed version.  Maybe some TP&W historian can offer information.

This is TP&W caboose 724:

It was originally Santa Fe Ce-8 999724 built in 1978.  In March 1983, it became part of the second group of 8 Ce-8's leased to by-then wholey-owned subsidiary TP&W so the shortline would not have to upgrade its own cabooses to meet FRA requirements.  The reporting marks on the Ce-8's were changed and the leading 999 was omitted from the road number.  After Santa Fe fully absorbed the TP&W in January 1984, the cabooses returned to ATSF markings and 9997XX road numbers.
