If this is the San Francico Zephyr, I road it east from Osceloa IA to Sacramento in 1976 and west from Sacramento to Denver and in 1977. My east bound trip had two domes, a short dome (might have been ex-GN) and a long dome (might have been ex-SP) but my eastbound trip had no domes, and through the Sierra's that was a big disappointment for this teenager at the time! I almost never got car sick, but on the east bound trip I remember getting off the train in Cheyenne WY for some fresh air and felt dizzy and a bit sick, from the motion of the train. I felt train sick. It wan't major but enough to feel crappy. Only happened that one time. During my train-off, I got treated to the pair of SDP40F's running around the train to haul it backwards down to Denver where I de-trained. Date: 07/20/18 08:32 Re: OTD: Amtrak @ Rawlins, WY (1977) Author: SPDRGWfan I don't know the origin of the long dome I road in on the SFZ prior to 77, but I recall it had lighted plexiglass hand rails on a staircase that wend down on one end.

They did have the beautiful plexiglass handrails up to the dome. Date: 07/21/18 06:31 Re: OTD: Amtrak @ Rawlins, WY (1977) Author: WAF dan Wrote:

I believe the only approved domes were the ex SP home built domes... |
