Nostalgia & History > One more SP Hog (2-8-0)Date: 09/07/18 15:16 One more SP Hog (2-8-0) Author: ssloansjca SP 3419, C-19, 2-8-0 on an unknown date and location, likely El Paso. Built in 1904 by Baldwin, builders number 24422, as EP&SW 270, re# 170 becoming SP 3419. Never converted to oil. Scrapped in 1939.
Photographer most likely Bill Darrough, from the Darrough Collection. Since negatives were extensively traded it's possible Bill was not the photographer. Photos from this collection have been shared with permission from Jack Darrough, obtained before he died. My dad, an SP Engineer from 1945 - 1977 always refered to SP 2-8-0s as "hogs" rather than Consolidations. That's why I am using that term. Comments and information appreciated. ~Steve Sloan San Jose, CA Date: 09/07/18 16:20 Re:SP 2-8-0 Author: timz Assuming the reverse gear has been replaced--
how does that valve gear work? Date: 09/07/18 16:21 Re: Re:SP 2-8-0 Author: ssloansjca I am assuming it was pending scrapping and the gear was removed to facilitate moving to the scrap yard.
