Nostalgia & History > Lone Star (Dallas section) -- Oct 76Date: 11/17/18 14:43 Lone Star (Dallas section) -- Oct 76 Author: gcm A couple of rescans.
(1) Rolling to Dallas on ex-Texas & Pacific trackage is the Dallas section of the Lone Star. It had cars from #15 - the southbound Lone Star picked up in Ft.Worth. (2) This is where it was parked after being turned (Dallas). The next morning on to Ft.Worth to add the cars to the northbound Lone Star. That is the Hyatt Regency under construction to the left. Dallas Union Station itself was under restoration as most of the old platforms and tracks were being torn out. The sleeper was ex-Santa Fe 10-6 Pine Lodge (built in 1950) along with an ex-Santa Fe Hi-Level coach. I had the pleasure of riding the Dallas section in Aug '79. Hi Level dutch door the whole way; I don't know what the passenger train speed limits were between Ft Worth and Dallas, but out in the open country, I was clocking the mileposts at 45-50 seconds, which is in the 75 MPH range. I'm sure we had an SDP-40 by that time, no E unit. 2-10-2 Date: 11/17/18 17:50 Re: Lone Star (Dallas section) -- Oct 76 Author: refarkas First-class rescans of an interesting train.

The Braniff "building" was actually a billboard alongside I-35E. |
