Cold Sunday in Argentine
Author: santafe199

During a very cold but productive weekend in February of 1980 I met up with good friend Dan Codespoti (‘SouthRailDanon TO) to go stomping around Kansas City, loaded with Kodachrome. It was a time for thick socks, insulated boots, Thinsulate gloves and long-handles that performed as advertised! Brrr…

1. AT&SF 2417, the last CF-7 ever produced tries to warm itself under a cold sun in the Argentine, KS engine yard.
Photo date: February 17, 1980.

Thanks for looking back!

This unit ended up on the NYSW in the mid 1980's. Not sure what happened to it after that.

Nice Shot !!!

I'm surprised to see the last CF7 sporting a pair of Wabco E-2 "blat" horns.  I know a lot of early CF7 horns were transplanted from F-units, but by 1978, I thought Santa Fe had dispensed with that practice and fitted the last new CF7's with new K3LA's.  Evidently not.

In any case, nice to see a photo of 2417 in Santa Fe service.  It wasn't on the roster for very long - just 6 years and 7 months from the Cleburne Shops to the waiting arms of a used locomotive broker.
