Nostalgia & History > Cold Sunday in ArgentineDate: 11/18/18 15:07 Cold Sunday in Argentine Author: santafe199 During a very cold but productive weekend in February of 1980 I met up with good friend Dan Codespoti (‘SouthRailDan’ on TO) to go stomping around Kansas City, loaded with Kodachrome. It was a time for thick socks, insulated boots, Thinsulate gloves and long-handles that performed as advertised! Brrr…
1. AT&SF 2417, the last CF-7 ever produced tries to warm itself under a cold sun in the Argentine, KS engine yard. Photo date: February 17, 1980. Thanks for looking back! Nice Shot !!! Date: 11/19/18 02:34 Re: Cold Sunday in Argentine Author: Evan_Werkema I'm surprised to see the last CF7 sporting a pair of Wabco E-2 "blat" horns. I know a lot of early CF7 horns were transplanted from F-units, but by 1978, I thought Santa Fe had dispensed with that practice and fitted the last new CF7's with new K3LA's. Evidently not.
In any case, nice to see a photo of 2417 in Santa Fe service. It wasn't on the roster for very long - just 6 years and 7 months from the Cleburne Shops to the waiting arms of a used locomotive broker. |
