Nostalgia & History > Philadelphia Main LineDate: 11/18/18 15:31 Philadelphia Main Line Author: King_Coal At one time in the not too distant past, you could go to a Suburban commuter station on the now-Septa Paoli line and expect to see a few freight trains. Here's a few from July of 1974 at Radnor. I was using "value" film at the time, but digital ICE seems to help the photos.
1 & 2 ) Three PC GP30's 2227-2221-2211 lead a mineral train eastbound. It all made a lot of noise!
I think that was the only time I saw 3 of the big Alcos together, much less in electrified freight territory. Please enjoy. Bob Omaha Edited 3 time(s). Last edit at 11/18/18 15:45 by King_Coal. It's upgrade all the way from Overbrook to Paoli, and the westbound loaded ore trains would struggle up the Main Line. I've seen several photos of helpers shoving on the rear. That must have been a sound for the neighbors whose houses back right up to the right of way in this territory. Date: 11/19/18 11:54 Re: Philadelphia Main Line Author: RRTom I found some iron ore pellets, from those westbound trains of imported Brazilian iron ore, in the ballast of the out of service main track while working on an Amtrak project at Downingtown about 3 years ago.
