Nostalgia & History > 40 years ago today on the Milwaukee Iowa Main Line

The late Bill Kuba caught an EB Milwaukee Road Train, either 220 or 222, on November 18 1978 powered by two C&NW SD45's. 966 was one of the 10 that went to the MILW
during the 1978 Trackage Rights agreement over the CNW between Clinton and Tama Iowa. 

1. First photo is east of Marion but Im thinking this is Paralta. Slide is labeled east of Marion. 

2. Second is the same train at Martelle, Iowa. A siding was located here. 

In a few weeks the MILW Main east of Tama would be downgraded to Savanna, and then would be all gone by March 1, 1980.

I've tried to imagine the Milwaukee back in service, but not many traces to stimulate those thoughts. Hard to believe there were fast "Cities" passenger trains on that line less than 2 decades before.

Those CNW SD45s with no dynamics were cool.
