There have probably been hundreds of pictures of the Rio Grande Zephyr posted here on Trainorders, so here’s one more to add to the collection. The 5771 leads eastbound train #18 through Rio, Utah (3 ½ miles east of Thistle) on Friday morning October 15, 1982. Over 36 years ago, a couple of friends and I decided we needed to make the journey to Utah for the Zephyr and, in my opinion, it’s still one of the smartest things we ever did.

Nice shot!! Old Rio Grande RR passenger train crews based in Salt Lake City and worked to and from Grand Junction, CO. Helper, UT based engine crews worked to and from Salt Lake City.

Beautiful!
