Nostalgia & History > TOOTD 1/1/1971Date: 01/01/19 17:42 TOOTD 1/1/1971 Author: 22dot5_ERS Today's Train order of the Day is one from Reading Company's Norris Tower, written 48 years ago today.
A yellow form 19, in contrast to yesterday’s green. On the Milwaukee, yellow forms were known as Y orders if I have that right - used in maintenance of way limits only. Given the yellow order, perhaps the Reading had similar practices as the Rock Island - yesterday's order if written at the beginning of 1980 would have been a yellow Rock Island one, with the Milwaukee assuming operations of the West Davenport - Washington Iowa segment upon the end of Rock Island operations. (Nahant Yard, indeed had been somewhat of an operations "island" for the Milwaukee with the DRI&NW to the north and Rock Island to the south) - through MILW Kansas City line trains would have required orders from both). Rock Island called their train order form the CT 110, seems like they used form 31 previous to that. 1005 Date: 01/01/19 19:59 Re: TOOTD 1/1/1971 Author: King_Coal Neat! Less than a mile from home. I thought the bridge had control points on both ends, but didn't think about it being current of traffic. Here's an RDC on #2 or the eastward track.
