Nostalgia & History > Riding Two Milwaukee Road mixed trains in Minnesota, 1963Date: 01/04/19 20:37 Riding Two Milwaukee Road mixed trains in Minnesota, 1963 Author: MartyBernard On April 10, 1963 Walt Dunlap rode two Milwaukee Road mixed trains in Minnesota from Austin to Wells and back to Austin. He rode Train 203 to Wells and Train 222 back. The trains met at Wells. Here's five photos from that day.
1. In the distance is the power for MILW Train 203 (2 Alcos and 1 EMD) about to couple on to 124 cars. Walt took the photo from MILW Combine 2703 in Austin, MN on April 10, 1963. 2. MILW Combine 2703 (light-weight open-platform branchline baggage - coach) on Train 203 at Alden, MN on April 10, 1963. 3 and 4. Switching cars from Train 203 at Wells, MN on April 10, 1963. 5. This is Walt's photo of MILW SD9 537 (built as MILW 2231 in January 1954) with Train 222 at Wells, MN on April 10, 1963. Enjoy, Marty Bernard Edited 1 time(s). War Emergency boxcars. allwed cars to be built with a minimum amount of steel Hard to tell from the photo who this might have been built for of if this is not a pre war car. |
