Hmmm ... I thought DF meant Damage Free, indicating a cushioned underframe and load restraints system trademarked by Evans Products.

XF typically meant food loading, at least around the mid-1970's that I recall.

Hutchinson Northern had a bunch of dark green boxcars so lettered.
