Nostalgia & History > The sight and sounds of GE C30-7's throttling outDate: 01/16/19 06:28 The sight and sounds of GE C30-7's throttling out Author: BrianA With EMD's it is mainly the sounds of listening to them throttle up but with the older GE's it was just as much what you'd see as what you'd hear. Case in point, eastbound coal loads BN VV082 leaving Edgement, SD with 5129/5091/5044/7886/5545 (C30-7/C30-7/C30-7/SD40-2/C30-7) after changing crews on 6-2-92. I can still recall the excitment I felt listening to those beasts throttle up and the smoke from those four GE's rising straight up in unison. Anyone else remember staying in an Alliance, NE motel and seeing the BN train schedules displayed on local TV? It sure made railfanning easy back then!

It all began as Alco-GE and GE kept the sounds of the Alcos as I remember them on the GM&O thru my hometown while I was growing up. You could feel the heartbeat in the Alcos and later these GE's.
