Nostalgia & History > Hamilton, Montana, 1967.Date: 01/16/19 13:07 Hamilton, Montana, 1967. Author: tolland The Northern Pacific depot in Hamilton in the 1960's was in this building, which still exists. Here's me outside that depot, I am 9 years old, August of 1967. The original Hamilton depot was a traditional Northern Pacific two story wooden depot. I am told that it was moved to another location in the 1960's and burned to the ground. Anyway, here's the picture.

Whatever happened to the blond haired young man? Haha. Bob Krieger Cheyenne, WY Date: 01/16/19 17:10 Re: Hamilton, Montana, 1967. Author: steph62850 Side view mirror on the station for the agent to check the action? And is that a trainorder signal attached to the building?
Stephanie Ann Date: 01/16/19 18:06 Re: Hamilton, Montana, 1967. Author: tolland The mirror attached to the station was so that the agent could see up the track. It's relatively straight for about a mile. The original station was located about 500 feet south, across what is now Marcus Street in Hamilton. Here's a picture I took of the building in August of 2012. It looks about the same today. It's been at least 5 years since a train came up this far on the Bitterroot Branch.

That would be "Marcus" as in "Marcus Daly", one of the copper kings of Butte, Montana whose mansion is located a couple miles northeast of this former depot (just follow Marcus street out of town). The mansion is open to the public for tours. |
