eventually repainted CNW. Thanks for posting all the CGW stuff, Marty. Nick Tharalson, Marion, IA Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/18/19 08:27 by ntharalson. Date: 01/17/19 11:02 Re: Various CGW and CNW Photos -- Walt Dunlap Author: WSOR506 Neat Griswold crossing signal!!
Date: 01/17/19 11:35 Re: Various CGW and CNW Photos -- Walt Dunlap Author: cewherry Photo 2 shows unnamed train 14's trailing unit taking on boiler water while stopped at Hayfield, Mn. In earlier times
this daily overnight accommodation train between Omaha and Minneapolis had been dignified with the name "Twin City Limited" while its' counterpart, No. 13 was known as the "Nebraska Limited". By December 1965, (maybe earlier), CGW would be out of the passenger business. Notice the head car, a UP express box undoubtedly received at Omaha from the UP en route Minneapolis. Those high speed trucks beneath the box are probably not needed today. The unit receiving the water enjoyed a certain distinction among its EMD brethren. Any takers? Thanks, Marty for posting these CGW photos. I don't know why it is but grainger roads such as CGW, RI and MKT hold a certain fascination for me. Maybe it's the Kansas City connection of my family roots. Charlie Date: 01/17/19 15:50 Re: Various CGW and CNW Photos -- Walt Dunlap Author: RodneyZona Nice shots! Second shot: Hayfield is where the train and engine crew change took place with the Minneapolis based train and engine crews and the Clarion, IA based T&E crews change at Hayfield.

Date: 01/17/19 22:08 Re: Various CGW and CNW Photos -- Walt Dunlap Author: cewherry OK, here's the answer. CGW 152 was built in January 1949 and was designated an F5 because it used D27B traction motors.
Earlier F3's used D17 motors. So I guess we could say it was a F3 on the inside masquerading as an F7 but called an F5. I know, I know; dirty pool. No way we could tell those differences by just looking at a photo. I sure couldn't either except by using such sources as Don Strack's UtahRails.net . Please forgive. ;>) Charlie Edited 2 time(s).
