Walking Through the Rock Island Roster, Part 19, AB6 750

As I wrote yesterday, 750 and 751, EMD numbers 1066 and 1067, built in June 1940, were an E6B carbody modified with a single 1000 h.p. engine, windows and controls in the front half, and at the rear half the baggage compartment and steam generator. 1, CRI&P AB6 750 northbound at Chicago's Englewood Union Station morning of April 21, 1965.

2. Later CRI&P AB6 750 southbound at Chicago's Englewood Union Station morning of April 21, 1965.

3 and 4, CRI&P AB6 750 with Train 506 at Joliet, IL on March 29, 1971.

4. CRI&P 750 with CC118 in Joliet, IL on March 29, 1971.

5 and 6. 750 was involved in the Montgomery Wreck on September 27, 1964. The result was close coupling.  See https://railfan44.blogspot.com/2014/01/major-passenger-train-wreck-montgomery.html

Was the 750 ever the lead unit of a multiple unit consist?

Every day between Limon and Colorado Springs when it was on the Rockey Mountain Rocket.

Both of the AB6’s were rebuilt with a second engine where the baggage room was some time before they went into suburban service. Making them just like any other E unit performance wise. BSB

To expand on the location in case anyone is attempting to sort out the jumble of 
tracks.  The cantilever signal the 750 is about a car length away from is the same
signal seen off in the distance in picture 2.  That signal is the northward home signal
on track 5 for 61st St. interlocking which controlled the junction of the NYC and RI at the
north end of Englewood Union Station.  The tracks in the immediate foreground are NYC mains
within the junction.

The two southbound signals on the cantilever bridge are Englewood's home signals for tracks 4 and 5.
