First guess: looking west from the overpass just east of Sinclair

(No, apparently not-- no center siding in the pic.)

Looks like he's on the 1-80 overpass just west of Sinclair and the train is eastward.

Did UP not have 1/4 - 1/2 - 3/4 milepost poles then?
The Google pic has a three-band pole in the foreground.

I'm an easterner.  How did engine crews feel about these compared to conventional diesels?

Did these things have a high pitch turbine whine?

From what I've heard, they were fine except for the operational quirks (start-up procedure, etc) because they were unconventional.  If you're asking about noise, they weren't bad at all.  This batch of turbines wasn't noisy and didn't vibrate much - the turbine was back in the second unit with exhaust directed up and to the rear, away from the lead unit.  Diesels and the first-gen. turbines were louder in their cabs than these were.

Also, nice job "timz" for coming up with the exact location and direction.

Take care,

Mark
