.   .   .   during my growing up (at least getting older!) years, sixties and seventies, business was GOOD on the SP Torrance Branch. When this photo was taken, in JUN '72, there was an at least six day a week hauler from SP Taylor Yard, near downtown Los Angeles and Torrance. MON thru FRI the local was a night operation arriving in Torrance around ten p.m. For whatever reason on SUNDAYs the hauler ran in the afternoon. Here, on a SUN afternoon, the Torrance hauler was on the south side of Gardena approaching the long siding along Normandie Ave where it will yard the train then head caboose hop to downtown Torrance for "beans" before gathering up it's outbound train built along a stretch of former PE line south of "Delanco" Jct, where the old line to San Pedro parallel to Normandie, separated from the line through down town Torrance.

Those Alco's look mighty sharp !

Was watching a mid 1970s police story...saw sunset shot of ATSF freight southbound while jet lands at LAX with camera looking west ...stock footage I'm sure...prob.seen in many shows from that era...SHM

The Torrance had a regular crew on duty at Taylor at 730pm. As I remember the conductor was Jack Lehman. On Sundays the train was ready at Taylor and the crew was called off of the extra boards. The hauler went to Torrance on Sunday and came back caboose hop.

Nice shot.  The local units that didn't have road and tunnel grime sure made the SP look really great.
