Maroon Monday: A touch o' yellow & gray
Author: santafe199

No maroon color to be seen here, but it’s a Rock Island train on Rock Island trackage near a well-known Rock Island location! A couple of years after Jim Watson took this shot, Rock Island acquired their brand-new blue & white The ROCK GP38s with individual names or slogans under the cab windows. GP38 #4306 was assigned the name “City of Atlantic”.

I guess 3 outta 4 ain’t bad for Maroon Monday…

1. UP 488 leads an all-UP consist on a Rock Island train near Atlantic, IA on April 16, 1974.

Thanks for looking back!

Love the cabless GP30s. I remember them on UP, but I can't recall anyone else having them.
