Conrail EMD SD50 6774 tiptoes with ALCG (Allentown-Corning-Gang Mills) thru the tight turn Northbound.

A GE C36-7, EMD SD40-2 and a GE C40-8 give an assist on the headend in what was once helper territory.

The train is coming off the ex-Jersey Central and curving onto the ex-Lehigh Valley at CP Lehighton.

When the LV began to run the CNJ's trackage in Pennsylvania, the LV's mainline between Allentown and here (right) was seen as redundant, however it was kept open until being ripped up by Conrail in the 1980's.

In beween the two lines, the foundation of the old tower can be seen.
Also, that block signal that guarded the interlocking during Conrail was lit and had to stay lit for CP Lehighton to function. Norfolk Southern has since removed the signal.

It avoided congestion in the former CNJ Allentown Yard for through trains like the Apollos (and Mercury's?).

That was a great spot back in the early 70s. The tower was green as I recall. Interesting choice of colors. Haven't seen anything from this spot in the Conrail era. The Valley main is a heart breaking mess though!
