It's their business car---here's a full view of it at Kensington (Chicago) on 10-31-87 Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/09/19 12:13 by ghemr. Date: 03/09/19 12:08 Re: Cabooses in the Chicago area... Author: NCA1022 RE Car 1: Looks like a bit of the last office car the IC had built. The shell was built by Pullman-Standard in 1956 and the car was completed in the IC's own shops. Still running today in CN's executive fleet, although they got rid of the diamond herald design the IC built into the car's rear railing.
As for the IC's long cabooses, these were the last new cabooses acquired by the IC. With the long wheelbase and cushion underframes I'm told the crews really liked them. The porches on each end were perfect for snagging train orders. They allowed crew members to stand on a flat surface while being kept out of the weather. I heard that one of these held up really well in a collision, further endearing these cabooses to the IC crews. - Norm Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/09/19 12:12 by NCA1022. |
