Nostalgia & History > Chinese Red, Flatirons and a 'wind cloud'Date: 03/13/19 06:03 Chinese Red, Flatirons and a 'wind cloud' Author: valmont A trio of Chinese Red (CB&Q & C&S) locos heading south on the C&S in Boulder, CO with the Flatirons and a lenticular cloud as a backdrop. The hoppers most likely coming from the Sunrise, WY mines and heading to CF&I steel mill in Pueblo, CO.

Maybe common in the Pueblo area and they just became part of the pool of cars for Iron Ore? That's the question, enquiring minds want to know. Good excuse to sell a few more model hopper cars.

Also lenticular clouds have been photographed many times over Boulder and a web search will turn up quite a few examples that show what 'WAF' was referring to.

Would cause a major traffic problem today; not so much back in the late '60s, early '70s. The C&S/BN/BNSF line is still there, everything else is greatly changed.
