Nostalgia & History > Two Seattle Street CarsDate: 03/14/19 18:53 Two Seattle Street Cars Author: MartyBernard From Key Route Ken.
1. On the back of this 8X10 is written, "1940 West Seattle line car 278 is eastbound on the Spokane St. viaduct, Aug, 1940. The car was built by the St. Louis Car Company in 1909 for service during the 1910 Alaska, Yokon Pacific Exposition, held at the present site of the University of Washington. Harold Hill" Harold Hill may be the photographer. Wikipedia says this Exposition was held in 1909. 2. No caption written on the photo. Looks like Seattle car 710 on Route 19. The destination sign says 8th AVE N WEST. Unknown photographer. Enjoy, Marty Bernard Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 03/14/19 18:58 by MartyBernard. I took another look. The streetcar destination sign is 8th Ave NW. Going north? Can't be. i can't think of a grade like that ascending southward. The building on the corner of 35th & Freemont is a match. The Google street view is a wide angle lens. The photo appears to be some degree of telephoto. So, I'm sure you are right. The photographer is standing at 34th & Fremont looking north. Off to his right will be the poor folks condemned to wait for the interurban forever. TAW |
