A Interurban Electric Railway Car
Author: MartyBernard

The Interurban Electric Railway (IER) was a Southern Pacific operation in the East Bay, mainly Oakland and Berkeley, CA.  The Wikipedia entry is quite good and has a map.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Bay_Electric_Lines

The caption on the back of the first photo reads, "SP - IER, West Alameda Shops".  No information as to date or photographer. While the IER was shut down in 1941, its cars continued to haul passengers in Portland, OR, on the Pacific Electric in Southern California, and in the East Bay.  A few exist in museums today. This is detailed in the Wikipedia entry.

Enjoy,
Marty Bernard

Never knew they had 3+2 seating. Only operated the PE conversions at OERM with 2+2.

Electric operations in Oregon shut down in October 1929.  The electric cars from there moved to the IER and PE.  As I understand it only one ex-Oregon Red Electric car still exists.
The operation in Oregon only lasted 15 years.  It was a big operation, on par with the Sacramento Northern (just a little shorter).  Too bad it didn't last.

I am assuming those are reversible seats with wicker upholstery. They look like the seats I remember on the old IC suburban equipment that I rode in the 70s. I suspect that they were used in a lot of similar equipment.
