They Were New Back Then
Author: CNW8531

A matched set of new SD70M's heads up westbound IG2OA-27 at M.P. 7.5 on the Clinton sub near Low Moor, Iowa on 02/27/02.  I would say it's the very first trip west for these new engines and they don't look half bad when clean.

Nice! I Like the 'throw-back' look of the SD45-style flares back there...

Beautiful!  Too bad the frame stripe had to later change from red to yellow.

Hard to believe those units are 17 years old now.   They look amazing in that photo.

Great photos!
According to info on Don Strack's excellent Utahrails site, those units were delivered to UP the prior day, 2/26/02.
The first flagged/flared SD70Ms (4735 and 4736) had been delivered 1/27/02, so yes, that is a very early shot of the flagged/flared SD70Ms.
(And I'll agree that they looked better with the red sill stripe)
