California where at?
Author: SP3201

Im reposting these photos from several weeks ago. Being that others in this series have been determined to be Santa Cruz area, maybe these are someplace between Santa Cruz and San Francisco instead of Oregon like I had originally thought. .
Any takers ? Photos being cataloged at Western Railway Museum.

And the last, sure looks like Oregon but probably really is in Calif.
(actually in looking at my notes none of these were ever posted before)

The eucalyptus trees in the third photo tend to rule out Oregon.

Could the first couple of pictures be taken somewhere on the Penninsula?

My hunch on the first three would be on the SP heading northward out of Santa Cruz, toward Davenport. Looks a lot like west Marin county, but it appears to be standard gauge, so that rules out Marin. Also, the single crossarm & minimal wires on the line pole indicate this line is likely a terminated branch -no excessive wires for signals, or multiple company telephone lines, probably a single telephone or telegraph at whatever depot lies at the end of this track. I'm unsure about the final photo with the oil spur. If I wasn't headed out the door to work I'd spend more research time looking at G-Earth & old timetables, but my bills don't pay themselves. I may check in later. Good Luck!
Shadows & tree lean in the second photo indicate photographer facing southward, the 1st & 3rd photos, northward.

Pics 1, 2, 3 all have signs of regular strong winds. Look at the direction those eucalyptus are permanently leaning; typical of central CA coast regions.
There's also some evidence of the evergreens I've seen in that region (Santa Cruz down towards Monterey); possibly cedars or pines?
Old cottonwood tree in #3.
Is that a church steeple in #2 or a lighthouse?
Light rail, little traffic; end of a branch?

My best assistance.

Windswept Euc’s.  Even the horses rear ends to the wind.   Might be a glimpse of the ocean in the 2nd photo on the horizon.

The more I look at them they remind me of the Monterey branch.

The only Eucalyptus trees on the Monterey Branch are near Del Monte (station stop for Hotel Del Monte) just railroad East of Monterey and those photos were definitely not taken at Del Monte.

The second photo posted has an intersting building in the lower left corner. Was thinking a unique church or tower but perhaps a lighthouse, if on the California Coast for example.

Appears to be the right shades for a black and white photo. I have some lighthouse books that might identify the lights around California, maybe Oregon too. But not with me, of course.

Photos 1 and 2 have the look, to me, of the Wilder ranch, on the north end of Santa Cruz.

The house and farm buildings at Wilder ranch sit in a depression with the barn straddling a creek.    These images do not show such a land feature.

The first two photos, near the lighthouse I failed to notice.....open countryside then, now......just another SC neighborhood......as is so with then and now shots all around the world.

I should know this....but is the former SP Davenport branch laid on the former Ocean Shore right of way?

And, thanks for the erroneous Wider Ranch ID correction.

The SP Davenport tracks and the Ocean Shore tracks paralleled each other. The SP did not build on the OS right of way.

Is this the Santa Cruz lighthouse? Built 1870, moved 1879, dismantled in 1948.
