(1-4) Arriving and departing Meridian on the Southern Crescent, passed GM&O GP38 714 working the yard.

(5) Departing, 714 is still working with an ICG freight leaving.
That is the GM&O  freight building in the background with the name in neon.

I am so glad you captured these moments in living color.  Countless the number of things you cannot see anymore.  Love the shot of the dome/lounge and the seasoned Southern brakeman.  Just like I remember it. Although, odd isn't it, to see the diner so near the rear.  The GM&O shots remind me a lot of J. Parker Lamb's work. Thank you!

Built in 1952 for the Wabash (The Bluebird).

Southern had two domes, 1602 and 1613, both by way of the N&W and the CofG. After the Nancy Hanks II was discontinued on Amtrak Eve, one dome ran on the south end of the Southern Crescent (reportedly it couldn't clear the tunnel into Washington Union Station in those days) and other ran on the Asheville train. After the Asheville train was discontinued, either dome would run on the Southern Crescent.
