Nostalgia & History > More Penn Central (part 2)Date: 03/23/19 14:20 More Penn Central (part 2) Author: NKP715 Thanks to everyone who commented on my Mar 12 PC post - -
here's a few more of my photos - - 1,2 First two views are of an EB changing crews in Erie, PA in Dec of 1968. The NYC Alco cabs didn't last long, and all were retired by mid 1969; no Pennsy FA's/FB's made it into PC. The 1464 was from the first order of F7's for the Pennsy, and still had the small number board. 3. A Sept, 1968 scene at the former PRR yard in Erie. 4. An EB passes thru Fairview, PA, with a nicely matched pair of ex NYC GP30's. May, 1975 5. A WB in Erie, July, 1970; nervously watching from the adjacent N&W is an SCL E6, awaiting its last trip, headed into GE as a trade-in. 6. Speaking of nervous, this FP7 is surrounded by Alco's, with "high-tech" RS-3's fore and aft. The FA-1 was ex-3322, but swapped places with the original 3368. It was a NYC practice to replace retired or wrecked units that were still under an existing equipment trust with an older unit, for financial reasons. Erie, June, 1968 7. Another number swap recipient was the 1319, seen in Erie in Sept of 68. It was originally the 1000, Central's first FA-1. Disguised in the FA-2 number series, it enjoyed a longer life than most of the NYC FA-1's. That 1905 was one of a half dozen units equipped with NYC's ATS. 8. A GP20 and GP35 on an EB in Erie, March 1969 9. Lastly an F7 and a Geep-9B at North East, PA in May of 1969 Hard to believe all this was 50 +/- years ago ! Sure a lot more variety back then !! Thanks for the images. Dave Date: 03/24/19 11:27 Re: More Penn Central (part 2) Author: SP8595 Fantastic series! Sure glad you were out shooting early PC instead of "boycotting" them and not taking any pictures!
Great GE-Alco-EMD consist in the first two. Dig those 89' boxcars in #4 and the brand new PC hoppers in #7. That NYC, PC, Pennsy consist in #7 is pretty awesome as well:} Date: 03/25/19 19:30 Re: More Penn Central (part 2) Author: inCHI Wild stuff!
