Where are these 13,200 Horses?
Author: santafe199

Unless my abacus is playing pranks, I have calculated a total of 13,200 HP in this consist. And that C&O van first out gives me a fair idea this is one of Uncle Pete’s hotter intermodal trains. All that said, what’s unknown is the location. This is an Kodachrome copy slide from Jim Watson's trader collection with no date, location or photographer ID attached. My shaky instinct wants to say it was shot in the late 1970s. And on the phone with Jim I offered a location guess of Weber Canyon, a place I’ve never seen in person. Jim offered an alternative, thinking it might be elsewhere in Utah. The only thing we know for sure is this is a pretty cool shot!

1. UP 6932 & 6901 are hustling an assumed intermodal hotshot in or near (unknown location)*. Photo thought to be from the late 1970s(?).
(EK copy slide from the James W. Watson collection)

Thanks for the help!

*With very handy help we'll ID this image as"Near" Elgin, NV circa-1974 (close enough for me)  -199

Added on 3-27: After a PM exchange with, and the thread reply from "FT" I'll amend the location to read Etna, NV. And to provide proper photo credit the photographer is FT himself, Mr Keith Ardinger. I took a peek at Google Maps around Etna, NV. But trying to nail the exact location proved to be too daunting.

Looks like we are zeroing in on a location. I'll check again when I get back home. At the moment I'm away on assignment. There's a Z prowling the KP right now, and I'm set up to apprehend this varmint in my second home town of Abilene..

As to time frame I would say '72-'74.  First car has ACI but I don't see any COTS box.  Late '60s C&O trailer scheme, and those DD40s looks to have a few years on them.

Well, I took the shot of 6932-6901 posted. I marked it as being Etna, NV  The second view here is within a mile or so of the first spot. UP 822 and two U50C's.
My slides sure do get around.
