An SP SD9---in Chicago...
Author: ghemr

For a few months this locomotive was assigned to the Chicago area for switching and transfer duties. I saw it in use a few times when Southern Pacific was leasing an unused intermodal ramp (Forest Hill) from CSX at the time. It's too bad I didn't catch in in action-----I guess this photo will have to do.....

She couldn't get much further away on the SP system than that from the Oregon and California service she had provided 99% of her life up to that time.   That's a far cry from hauling lumber down the Russian River Valley.

Thanks for sharing as I had not heard one made it that far from their normal home.

Nice catch!    Clearing had a lot of unusual power at the time there.    The parking lot there was good for photos.
