Nostalgia & History > Back When the KP Was Busier . . .Date: 03/24/19 19:40 Back When the KP Was Busier . . . Author: SCKP187 Another look into some of my Dad's Conductor's Books. Ocassionally the locals and the manifests couldn't handle all the traffic needs of the many customers on the Union Pacific KP line between Salina KS and Ellis KS, so a turn would be sent out to work part of the line and return to terminal.
This particular trip was a turn to Wilson KS and return to Salina KS Sept. 22 1965 Called for 100p and departed Salina (MP 187) 130p with a GP9 4 mt grain cars and caboose Picked up 5 cars salt Kanopolis MP219 and continued west to leave them at Ellsworth MP224 for either the local or #154 to take them east Then ran west to Wilson MP240 to spot the grain cars for the elevator, then return east to Kanopolis MP219 for a couple of hours of switching out the salt mine loads and empties and blocking the KC-Omaha-Council Bluffs cars and returning to Salina MP187 so these cars could be fill into #154 to go east. Thanks for looking Brian Stevens Date: 03/24/19 20:22 Re: Back When the KP Was Busier . . . Author: trainupaboy Very cool! We did have 3 detour double stacks today. . That was nice to see!
