Nostalgia & History > A Conrail quad of 6 axle Alco'sDate: 05/14/19 12:08 A Conrail quad of 6 axle Alco's Author: EL833 A set of Alco's, two C630's and two C628's, depart Collinwwod (Cleveland) lite for Whiskey Island. It's September 1978 and these big six axle units didn't have a lot of time left on Conrail due to new power arrivals and a slowing economy that shuttered many of the steel mills in the late 70s and early 80s. Only two former Conrail 6 axle Alco's would surive, a C630 and a C636. All others would be scrapped.

Of all you could have chosen, this one gives me a big smile. We may not have CR 6777 to photograph, but we have CVSR 6777 (MLW FPA-4) still pulling passenger trains on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad.
