Whats this location in the Feather River Canyon?
Author: photobob

Here's a shot I took of a WP train in the Feather River Canyon in the late 1960's  but I have no idea of the location.

Westbound between Poe and Pulga.  This area was charred by the recent "Camp Fire" that obliterated the town of Paradise.

Yes on between Poe and Pulga but I think the bridge has been gone for some years.

To go one step further, what was that road and bridge for? What did it give access to? In this photo there appears to be a building, maybe a mine or something.

I am not intimately familiar with the FRC and I have seen this location but I don't remember outside access to that side of the river and that bridge. Was there outside access at one time?

Looks like lots of material was dumped over the side to the river there.

Bridge abutments are still there. Haven't been there for awhile but I believe that is a westbound exiting Tunnel 9 before reaching Poe. There is an abandoned vehicle bridge below this point that crosses the river that uses (what I was told is) a former turntable bridge as the approach span. I've always wondered if that was true (sure looks like one) and if so, where did it come from?

It looks like a construction access point for the Poe dam diversion tunnel.

Thanks for the survey map Tom, that's correct. Exiting tunnel 9.

Looks like the road dead-ends in the photo but if it followed the route on the USGS map, it would go through the concrete tunnel-like thing.

I think most of the dirt in the foreground came out of the tunnel.
