Another typical consist from the 1980s. This looks like an eastbound Z Train.

In 1985 SP didn't have "Z" Trains. Maybe an LAHOT or LAEST

Nice shots!  Also interesting to note some of the original SeaLand stack cars on the head end with the old bulkhead design, which proved to be less efficient than the Thrall Car designed stack cars that came later that year.  This is most likely an LAHOT (Los Angeles to Houston TOFC) train given the consist.  1985 was my final year on the good 'ol SPRR!

Yes, its the LAHOT. The time of day is the clue.

SP also ran Sealand stacks on the LAAVT. In the early to mid '80's the LAAVT departed LATC under the cover of darkness.
