Three Warbonnets for Wednesday
Author: bobdavis

Attached are three shots of Santa Fe freights with Warbonnets, from a memorable trip in June 1995 when the red/silver units were nearly new.  The railroad wasn't as busy back then as it is now, but the power and train consists, in my humble opinion, were more interesting.  The first shot shows the westbound HHOBA (Houston?-Barstow) east of Abo, NM on June 18th with three GE's and 86 cars.  Second shot has the hotshot westbound 199 near Manuelito, NM on the 20th with a matched set of five B40-W's.  If the train looks longer than the 39 cars I logged, it was due to containing a dozen five-pack TOFC cars.  Lastly, on the 21st we shot the eastbound HBADV (Barstow-Denver) at Manuelito with five Warbonnets and three blue/yellows including a cowl F45.  Train had 98 cars of mixed freight.

I'm sure glad we decided to include the Santa Fe on that trip!

Had the 658 last trip as my second unit. She’s been repainted for several years now but the back of the seats still had the Santa Fe  logo👍🏻
