WAG running extra (#62): UP FA1 A-B-B!
Author: santafe199

This alphabet-soup thread title is actually a secret code gleaned from a box of Kellogg’s Corn Flakes in the early 60s. Unfortunately, at the ripe old age of 7, I wasn’t wealthy enough to cough up the necessary $1.95 + 2 box tops that would earn me a secret de-coder ring through the mail. Since we’ll never know the secret, we’ll just have to gander at 3 of Uncle Pete’s freight hauling Alcos from 57 years ago…

1. UP A-B-B consist trio 1605, 1610B & 1616B sitting at Council Bluffs, IA, awaiting a future assignment. The date is September 15, 1962.

Nice!  I saw them in the background of the D&RGW box car photo you posted earlier but did not have time to reply at that moment.  You answered my intended question.  WAG did shoot the Alco cabs making this TO member glad he did.  Thanks Lance.

Wonderful follow up! Oh to be able to see those cranking across Nebraska again.

Thanks gang! I'm glad to be able to make your day(s). And I'm absolutely positive that WAG Sr is looking down from (railfan) Heaven with a satisfied smile on his face. Bill was one of the most gracious railfans I've ever known. And his generosity was legendary...

PS: Whew... I sure done a passel o' typing, and it's not even 3 PM yet. My 2 index fingers (only ones that are typing-qualified) are plum tuckered out! If anyone should need me I can most likely be found down at the local watering hole, tipping back on a couple of cold ones...  ;^)

I was going to comment on those FA's in the background too but got sidetracked earlier....

Great stuff, thanks for sharing!

In the late 50's FA1's were regulars going through Beatrice, NE.

Thanks for posting this rare roster shot. UP scheme with wings up front looked good on FA-1's. --Kelly
