Those “Circus” colors are fantastic! I wish CSX would do a heritage unit with that scheme on one of their new EMD Tier 4’s!

Very nice pick I never got to see the WM Geep 40s ,I got into the Rail fanning late 1987, Never had interest prior to that!

These two units led a Maple Sugar Express excursion from Grant Street Station in downtown Pittsburgh to Meyersdale, Pa. in the spring sometime in the mid-1980’s. Although I don’t remember the exact date of the excursion, it would be quite a coincidence to have these units paired up randomly. I’m thinking you caught them either directly before or after they pulled the excursion.

Yes, it became CSX 6573. After that it became ISRR 6573 and then ISRR 4041.

ISRR 4041 is still alive and working for a living in Florida on The Bay Line, a Genesee and Wyoming property. After all these years, it is STILL a straight, unmodified GP40.
